FATHER-of-three Mike Prendergast is to cycle 3,200 miles across Australia to raise money for the Scarborough's St Catherine's Hospice and the children's ward at the resort's main hospital.
Mr Prendergast, 49, of Greencroft Gardens, Cayton, Scarborough, is preparing for the marathon by cycling 30 miles a day - but in Australia he will ride 130 miles a day.
He has a catalogue of long-distance charity rides to his credit, including cycling east to the west across the US, raising £11,500 for the hospice, Leeds General Infirmary and St George's School, Scarborough.
Three years ago, he raised £10,000 cycling 2,800 miles around Britain for charity.
However, he says the Australian venture will be his last long-distance ride.
Two colleagues at printers Polestar Greaves, in Scarborough, will accompany him in a van.
