EDWARDIAN Darlington will be recreated in a park next month as part of its centenary celebrations.
The Friends of North Lodge Park are holding an Edwardian country fete on Saturday, July 5, to recreate the atmosphere on the day the park was opened, July 5, 1903.
The group will be dressing in period costumes and there will be games and stalls representative of the time.
Darlington Mayor Councillor Ron Lewis will open the fete at 12.30pm, and the Friends are hoping to present him with an engraved key, similar to the one presented to the chairman of the parks committee, Robert Benson, when he first opened the gates of the park to the public.
Darlington Borough Council was awarded £265,000 of National Lottery money to renovate the park this year.
