THE identity of a man who suffered a suspected heart attack and fell from his bicycle on Tuesday remains a mystery.
The man, thought to be in his 50s, was found on the A167 road at the Thinford roundabout, between Ferryhill and Spennymoor.
He was wearing blue shorts, a white T-shirt and a red baseball cap, and had been riding an orange Peugeot racing bike, .
The heavily built man is about 5ft 5in and has a moustache and small beard.
He was not carrying any means of identification when he was found.
The man was described as "very ill" in Bishop Auckland General Hospital.
Although a number of people have contacted Newton Aycliffe Police Station either by telephone or in person thinking they recognised the description, no one has been able to positively identify him. Police are presuming he must live on his own and possibly does not work.
Anyone who thinks they might know the identity of the man is asked to contact the control room at police headquarters on 0191-386 4929.
