PUPILS from schools in the Darlington area have been showing off their sporting prowess.
The annual Darlington Primary Schools' Athletics Championships was split into two sections this year, with field athletes competing last Friday and track events taking place yesterday.
The field events were held at Abbey Junior School, while yesterday the young competitors were put through their paces at the town's Eastbourne Sports Complex.
Yesterday's event attracted more than 1,000 primary pupils, who were split into two groups to represent small and large schools. They were supported by parents, fellow pupils and teachers.
The large school section consisted of: Skerne Park, Mowden, Harrowgate Hill, St John's, Reid Street, Heathfield, Corporation Road, Springfield, Dodmire, Whinfield, Abbey Road, Alderman Leach, North Road, Firthmoor, and Bishopton Redmarshall.
The small schools section contained: St Augustine's, Polam Hall, St Bede's, Cockerton, Gurney Pease, Mount Pleasant, St Teresa's, Sadberge, Middleton St George, Rise Carr, Holy Family, Hurworth, Redhall and Heighington.
