Organisers and visitors celebrated the return of the livestock classes at Malton Show yesterday as the 117th running of the event got under way.
Show chairman Ian Hamilton declared the cloudy, cool day a success.
He said: "It is ideal because it is not too hot, which means it is a lot more pleasant for the stock.
"The main thing for everyone, I think, is that the cattle are back.
"We have not got as many back as we have had previously, but we are pleased with what we have."
Competitors were up early in the morning and horse classes were well under way before many visitors had even arrived.
Trade stands and stalls offering everything from Mediterranean olives to tractors were set up on the site, at Scampston Park, Rillington.
