A STARTING date has been announced for public inquiries into proposals to upgrade Britain's most dangerous road.
The Highways Agency announced last year it had finally given in to a 20-year campaign and would redevelop much of the A66 across the Pennines as dual-carriageway.
However, although most have welcomed the multi-million pound project, there have also been objections.
The Secretary of State for Transport has confirmed public inquiries will be held to examine the proposals for stretches of road between Greta Bridge and Stephen Bank, and Carkin Moor and Scotch Corner, from Tuesday, September 9.
The hearings will be conducted by Mr R F Shercliff at the Morritt Arms Hotel, Greta Bridge.
The inquiries also include an examination of a compulsory purchase order published on November 28, last year, relating to the stretch of road between Carkin Moor and Scotch Corner.
Any correspondence relating to the A66 proposals should be addressed to Susan Lavin at the Highways Agency, City House, New Station Street, Leeds LS1 4UR.
