THEFTS of plants from flower beds and tubs, flower beds being trampled and flower displays being damaged by people using the tubs as seats, are causing concern to Sedgefield Town Council members.

Councillors are asking villagers to report any incidents of vandalism and have warned that security cameras monitoring the village green will be used to identify culprits.

The mayor of Sedgefield, Councillor Linda Maddison, condemned the vandalism and urged anyone who witnesses incidents of theft or damage to report them.

"It does seem a shame that the hard work of the children who planted the flower tubs just recently, and that of the town council gardeners, is being destroyed," she said.

"The time spent planting the tubs and preparing the flower beds is all part of the preparation for the Northumbria in Bloom judging next month."
