NEW breakfast clubs will be established at three primary schools thanks to a £117,100 grant.
Funding from the New Opportunities Fund will create 40 places at Overfields Primary, Ormesby, 32 at Wilton Primary, Lazenby, and 48 at Whale Hill Primary, Eston, between the start of the new school year in September and Christmas.
The money will also allow 75 places at the new Chaloner Hall Day Nursery in Redcar Road, Marske, which is due to open later this summer.
The funding will last three years for the 195 out of school places and will also finance running costs, play equipment and low fees.
Lesley Sanderson, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council early years and childcare manager, said: "These clubs help us ensure there is good quality, affordable childcare available in every community."
Steve Kay, the council's lead councillor for education, said: "In these fast-moving times it is often forgotten just how important a good breakfast is to kick-start the day."
