Last weekend Snetterton Park, Norfolk, played host to the next stage in both the FORCE 5000 and the BRSCC championship.
After a three week break due in part to examination commitments Edwin Jowsey had developed a thirst for racing, but four grand prixs over two days promised to satisfy Edwin's craving. Edwin and Team Garbutt Heaters travelled down to Snetterton on Friday and spent the day practising with both the Lola F1/F5000 and the Brabham F2.
And Edwin said: "Snetterton is a fast circuit with a long straight, I hadn't raced these cars on this track before so it was important to have a full day getting use to the course."
On Saturday morning the BRSCC championship qualifying took place, with the two races set for the afternoon. During the qualifying the current championship holder a New Zealander who now lives in Norfolk recorded the fastest lap with Edwin fractionally slower.
The first race was approximately 30 miles in distance, Edwin, second on the starting grid, made a positive start and took the lead half way through the first lap. The New Zealander who was driving a Lotus F2 kept pace with Edwin for the first 15 miles of the race, but started to tire. Edwin continued to increase his lead, but then disaster struck, with two laps to go Edwin's electronics started to fail and his car would no longer perform at high revs. Edwin was therefore forced to retire from the race.
Due to the fact that Edwin did not finish the first race, he began the second race at the back of the starting grid, with 24 cars in front of him. When the red lights went off Edwin made an aggressive start, weaving in and out of the cars in front of him, by the end of the first lap he had moved up ten places. To the enjoyment of the spectators Edwin continued to progress up the field and by the end of the fifth lap he was in third place, two laps later he was in second, and then he took the lead. Edwin maintained his lead and went on to comfortably win the race.
The FORCE 5000 championship races took place on Sunday.
The qualifying session in the morning saw Edwin secure pole, driving in excess of 190mph. Edwin went on to win the first race but the Lola experienced problems with the petrol pump, which forced Edwin out of the second race.
Nevertheless, Edwin collected two winning cup, two laurels and was named driver of the weekend for his sensational win in the second race on Saturday and was presented with a gold cup.
