student Keren Adams has won £1,000 in a national ice cream contest.

The competition was launched to celebrate Ben and Jerry's 25th anniversary. It required entrants to create a new way of promoting the ice cream maker's free cone day.

Ms Adams, 20, proposed customers receive a free ice cream in exchange for a donation to Childline.

She also suggested that a Ben and Jerry's bus toured her home town, Edinburgh, on free cone day, visiting landmarks including Bristol Square, the Mound and Fountain Park.

Bus passengers would also include celebrities such as Hollywood star Ben Affleck and former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell - except the famous passengers would be look-alikes.

Ms Adams, who has recently finished a degree in design marketing at the University of Teesside, said: "I couldn't believe I won, it was really unexpected and a nice way to finish the degree.

"I wanted the bus to tour Edinburgh, as Scotland's capital wasn't involved in the free cone day, and yes I do like the ice cream.

"My favourite is Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. It would be brilliant if Ben and Jerry's used the campaign. I'm planning to use some of the £1,000 on a big shopping spree with my friends."
