PEOPLE in a North-East town experience some of the worst levels of ill health in the country, according to local health experts.
Middlesbrough Primary Care Trust says heart disease and diabetes is significantly higher than national levels.
It has organised a conference to highlight improvements in the quality of care aimed at reducing the two biggest health risks in Middlesbrough and Eston.
Pam McNeice, a specialist nurse in Middlesbrough, said: "High priority has been placed on investing in equipment and training for practices, such as the provision of defibrillators and monitoring equipment for all practices in the Middlesbrough area."
Guest speakers include clinical specialists from The James Cook University Hospital and specialist GPs and nurses.
It will be held on Thursday at the Highfield Hotel, Middlesbrough, and has attracted more than 80 professionals from primary and secondary healthcare.
