FORMER Wimbledon umpire Malcolm Huntington dusted down his green jacket for the first time in eight years when two vicars faced each other over the net at the weekend.
Nancy Eckersley, Anglican priest of Heslington, York, took on Methodist minister Graham Jones in a charity tennis match to raise almost £150 towards a new boiler for the village church.
Mr Huntington, a former sports journalist who officiated at six Wimbledon finals, wore his old uniform for the sake of authenticity.
And, although it was the Church of England which benefited from the fundraising match, the day was a double victory for Mr Jones, who won the match 7-5 and was the only person to guess the weight of a giant tennis racquet.
The game is followed this weekend by Heslington Today, a flower, arts and crafts festival, on Saturday and Sunday.
