SURGEONS at Northallerton's Friarage Hospital do not want to be caught out over a fundraising event.
So they are making an early start in appealing to former patients to take part in a Friarage Hopalong around the town.
It is hoped those who have had hip or knee joint replacements will join the sponsored walk of a mile on Sunday, September 21.
The event is linked to the hospital's new Friarage Hopalong Club for all patients with new hips and knees.
A club spokesman said: "We are inviting all ex-orthopaedic surgery patients to take part, not only those with joint replacements but also their families and friends.
"This kind of event attracts all ages. People in their 80s and 90s getting involved is not uncommon."
The hopalong is designed to be fun, but it does have a serious side.
The money raised will go towards the Friarage's orthopaedic unit. Last year's event raised £2,000 for research and another £2,000 for the unit.
This year, all the money will go to the unit.
"We hope to have a fun day and 100 per cent of all proceeds will go to the department," said the spokesman.
The walk starts at 2pm and there will be refreshments and various stalls before and after in the recreation hall, starting at 11am.
