A CHAROLAIS bull from North Yorkshire made the top price of 3,000gns at Carlisle on Wednesday of last week at the breed society's inaugural June fixture of pedigree bulls.
The sale leader was Mowbraypark Tanner, a 14-month-old by Mowbraypark Napolean and with a Beef Value within the breed's top 10pc at CH25.
Bred and offered by Mike and Margaret Atkinson of Kirkby Malzeard, Ripon, he sold to R H Thompson and Son, Newfield, Bishop Auckland.
Next to go at 2,800gns was Maerdy Swindon CH29, a 19-month-old by the full French-bred Maerdy Grimaldi and out of a homebred cow from Flintshire vet, Esmor Evans, Mold. Swindon returned to Wales with J E Williams, Tudweiliog, Pwellheli.
Colin Campbell and his sons, Ian and John, of Alnwick, led the female trade at 1,500gns with Thrunton Poppet, a December 1999-born second calver by Maerdy Location. She sold, with her six-month-old heifer at foot by Mortimers Politician, G W and L Williams, Gwynedd.
Averages: 11 bulls £2,100; five cows served and/or suckling £1,071; one served heifer £892.50; 31 maidens £639.82.
