SOME of the top names in the world of show jumping feature in the competition lists for next week's Great Yorkshire Show.
There are 187 entries across the six classes, culminating in the prestigious CD Bramall Cock o'the North Championship.
Among them are illustrious riders such as John and Michael Whitaker, Robert Smith and Di Lampard plus names like Mark McCourt, Tim Stockdale and Andrew Saywell who are all very familiar to the Great Yorkshire crowds.
The show jumping action begins with The Yorkshire Butter Great Yorkshire Championship on Tuesday afternoon and runs through to Thursday evening for the grand finale.
Another highlight of the show will be the inter hunt relay competition when representatives from nine hunts field teams of four in a race against the clock around a challenging course.
Hunts represented are: The Badsworth, Bramham Moor, Cleveland, Staintondale, South Durham, West of Yore, York and Ainsty South, Saltergate Farmers and the Hurworth.
Honorary show director Christopher Hall said: "The equestrian side of the Great Yorkshire Show is always first class. The entries across the horse and pony classes total 1,781, which is a superb figure, and once again there's likely to be wonderful show jumping to watch.
"The inter hunt relay is always fun, plus we have the Double Harness Scurry - our version of the Ben Hur chariot race! - and of course the more sedate heavy horses, dozens of ponies and the in-hand classes. All in all there's something for anyone with an interest in horses."
The show, which runs from Tuesday to Thursday, is open at 8am each day. Tickets on the gate are £13 for adults, £10 concessions and £7 children. Car parking is extensive and free.
