A TEAM of Consett golfers have returned home with their heads held high, after coming third in a national tournament in Portugal.
The quartet, from the Miners' Arms, Benfieldside Road, Blackhill, took third place in the national finals of the Bass Ale Golfing Pub of the Year.
The team, made up of pub regulars Bryan Davison, Mark Bonser, Gary Amos and Andrew Hutton, represented the North of England at the contest. They competed against teams from southern England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, at a two-day event in Vilamoura.
The trip was extra special for Mr Davison, who celebrated his 41st birthday as he flew over Spain.
The foursome had to beat off competition from thousands of golfers to reach the finals, winning qualifying rounds at Linden Hall in Northumberland and at Brancepeth before clinching the regional finals at Fulford, near York.
