FOUR schoolboys are in training for a national first aid competition.
The boys, from Rye Hills School in Redcar, have been practising their bandaging techniques on their drama teacher, Julie Saxton, who sparked the boys' interest with an after-school first aid club.
Robert Annis, James Hooton, Chris Smith and Danny Willis won the county and regional rounds to qualify for the final of the St John Ambulance National Schools' First Aid Competition.
They will have to treat casualties and take part in a quiz in their bid to win the senior section against nine other schools.
Mrs Saxton, who is a member of the Cleveland Search and Rescue Team, said: "I'm really proud of the boys. We entered them with no great expectations, but they've learnt personal first aid and really enjoyed the competition."
First prize winners will receive a trophy, a plaque and a goodie bag each, as well as £1,750 for their school.
The competition is taking place next Tuesday at London Zoo.
