IRISH Draught stallion Earl of Montrose, owned by Patricia Lithgo of Greatham, near Billingham, won the pre novice section at last Sunday's Aske Hall horse trials.
The nine-year-old 17hh chestnut, ridden by Victoria Wood, was making only his second appearance in affiliated horse trials. His first was at Hexham early last month, when he was placed sixth from a large entry.
Horse and rider have enjoyed a successful partnership for three years, having won and been placed many times in unaffiliated and affiliated show jumping, horse trials, one-day events and BSJA competitions.
