A MAYORESS who helped to convict a bus driver's attacker has helped launch a reward scheme for public spirited passengers.
Susan Lynn, wife of the Mayor of Gateshead, Councillor David Lynn, was on board a Go North East bus in August when a man carried out the unprovoked attack.
She later helped police identify the man, who was convicted of assault by Gates-head magistrates.
Inspired by her actions, Go North East plans to offer a similar reward to passengers who help convict criminals responsible for attacks against its staff and property.
A year's free travel is on offer or a donation to charity. Mrs Lynn, asked that a donation be made to the Gateshead Carers Association.
Go North East managing director Paul Matthews said: "Support from the public is essential if we are to continue to provide a safe and reliable service."
