YOUNG bookworms were rewarded for their reading efforts by the Mayor of Darlington.
Councillor Ron Lewis invited youngsters from Firthmoor and Skerne Park primary schools, who have been attending reading sessions during school lunch hours, to the town hall for a presentation and celebration lunch.
Each pupil was presented with a personal letter from Coun Lewis, a bookmark and a gift, before a buffet lunch and a tour of the council chamber.
Coun Lewis said: "I was so impressed by the hard work and achievements of the pupils that I felt I wanted to give them some formal recognition for their efforts.
"The visit went extremely well and I thoroughly enjoyed hearing all about their different tastes in reading."
