Anyone interested in finding out more about the archaeology of Hartlepool's Headland is invited to join a free guided walk around the area on Sunday.

The walk, which will explore the development of the Headland from the foundation of the Anglo Saxon Monastery to the coming of the railways, will be led by community archaeologist Mark Simmons, of Tees Archaeology. It starts from the main door of St Hilda's Church at 2pm and is suitable for adults and children aged 13 or over who are accompanied by an adult. For details, call Mr Simmons on (01429) 523455.

NEW HOUSES: Plans to build 208 houses on Teesside's biggest housing estate look likely to be approved. Members of Stockton Borough Council's planning committee will meet tomorrow to discuss an application to build houses and garages at The Forum, Campus Major and Vallum Edge in Ingleby Barwick. Despite concerns from Ingleby Barwick Parish Council about the lack of bungalows being built in the area, the plans have been recommended for approval.

SUMMER SCRAPBOOKS: Youngsters are invited to Throston Grange Library, Glamorgan Grove, Hartlepool, on Tuesday, from 2pm to 3pm to take part in a summer scrapbook session. They are invited to make a scrapbook decorated on the cover with pictures of cartoon characters, in which they can write down their summer holiday memories. COFFEE MORNING: Rye Hills School PTA is holding a coffee morning on Saturday, at Sunnyfield House, Westgate, Guisborough, from 10am to noon. There will be homemade cakes, tea and coffee a tombola and a bric-a-brac stall.

SPECIAL DAY: An out of school and holiday care scheme in Hartlepool is holding an anniversary party tomorrow. Oscars, which is now based at the Boys Welfare Youth Centre in Wiltshire Way, will celebrate, its tenth anniversary with a party for youngsters, parents and staff who have been involved in the scheme.
