DETECTIVES investigating the attempted abduction of a teenage girl say they are examining vital information provided by members of the public.
A man tried to drag the 14-year-old into his car as she walked in the Grange Road area of Darlington on the afternoon of July 13.
The victim managed to break free and ran to her friend's house, where the alarm was raised.
An appeal for witnesses in The Northern Echo the following week prompted a number of calls to police.
Detective Inspector Ian Phillips said: "We are making a number of substantial inquiries and closely examining a number of calls that we have received."
The incident was the second attempted abduction to take place in the town this month. On July 5, a man tried to grab a seven-year-old boy near the junction of Westminster Road and Geneva Road. The boy broke free and ran off.
Police are not connecting the two incidents.
