YOUNGSTERS yesterday made last-minute preparations for a puppet show.

The children, from Derwentside, have been working with community arts group, Busy Ape Arts, to form the Gobby Base Puppet Club.

The club makes its debut performance of When Puppets Rule the World today in the Lamplight Arts Centre, Front Street, Stanley.

The show features characters, including shadow and black light puppets, made and operated by youngsters aged from seven to 11.

Members of the club have met up every week for the past seven months at the Phoenix Arts Centre in Harelaw, near Annfield Plain, to work on the project.

Visitors to the Lamplight saw some of their work when the club put on an exhibition of the puppets last month.

Tonight's show starts at 7.30pm. Tickets, priced £3 are available from the box office on (01207) 218899.
