HUNDREDS of soldiers and civilians were battling it out yesterday in their own version of the Highland Games.
All four battalions at the Infantry Training Centre at Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, were taking part in the athletics competition for the Commandant's Trophy.
But in tandem with the serious business, there were also a series of fun events, including tossing the caber and the tug of war.
Children joined in the fun with some races of their own, while Gurkha recruits put on their own display of the martial art tae kwon do.
The commandant, Brigadier Hughie Monro, and the Mayor of Richmond, Councillor Stuart Parsons, acted as co-chieftains for the games.
