To encourage would be and novice runners in the Newton Aycliffe area to take their first steps in running, Newton Aycliffe Athletics Club are launching a novice runners group.
Starting on September 1, using qualified coaches and experienced runners, complete beginners are welcome to attend, as are experienced runners who would like to train as part of a group.
All runners are requested to bring are a pair of good quality running shoes, appropriate clothing, dictated by the weather, and the motivation to get you to our meeting, say organisers.
A spokesman said: "Running is a popular sport because of all the benefits associated with it, like increased fitness leading to better overall health, weight control, stress-management, better sleep and increased confidence.
"Challenges are plentiful and the camaraderie of running with a group of similar-minded people has to be experienced to be appreciated.
"Newton Aycliffe AC is a small, friendly club with a lively social side. Trips are regularly organised for races and fun-run events and often include a trip to the pub for aprs-run fluid and meals. The novice runners group will be welcome at any of these events."
The group will meet on Monday evenings at 6.15pm and following a warm-up and stretching session will split into supervised groups according to ability. The sessions will be structured to gradually improve fitness.
Any experienced runners who wish to join the main club will also be welcome and will be encouraged to participate in road races, cross-country and fell races depending on their preferences and ability.
l If you would like to try the running experience you are invited to attend Oak Leaf Sports Complex on September 1 at, 6.15pm, where you will be welcomed by Pat Edwards, Sue Milburn and other experienced runners.
