A 50-STRONG entry at the summer sale of working sheepdogs at Skipton Auction Mart on Tuesday saw a fine field headed by Peg, a 3-year-old tri-coloured bitch, at 1,960gns.
Peg, by D W Lloyd's Bru, impressed at trial. She was sold by Richard Briggs, of Wennington, Lancaster, to Elaine Hills, of Oakworth, near Keighley, for the trials field.
First lot of the day, Jill, a black and white 2001 bitch by J McAdams's Glen, run by J G Fotheringham of Perthshire, achieved the second highest price at 1,300gns to the aptly-named J J & J Woof of Sedbergh.
Strong male shearlings in the trials field did not assist handlers with young dogs, but there was firm trade for well-broken dogs, with buyers drawn from throughout the UK, along with a strong contingent from Ireland, both north and south of the border.
Prices: broken dogs to 1,960gns av £931; part-broken to 975gns av £571; unbroken to 300gns av £233; puppies to 120gns av £107
