YOUNGSTERS at schools on the North Yorkshire coast are learning more about the past thanks to a Heritage Lottery grant.
The Scarborough Museums and Gallery service has been awarded more than £90,000 to develop its services for schools.
It will ensure that the borough's children have access to their heritage by taking the museum collections to the schools.
Freelance educators will also be trained to work with the collections in school, and loans boxes of objects and specimens will be produced for teachers to borrow.
The regional Heritage Lottery Fund manager, Ray Taylor, said: "The best way for children to learn about their local heritage is to provide them with a hands-on, enjoyable experience."
