A FACTORY in Newton Aycliffe has donated specialist eye equipment to two hospitals.
Local people will benefit from the donation of two pieces of advanced optical equipment from PVC manufacturer Hydro Polymers.
Funds from Hydro Polymers' 2003 community sponsorship budget have been used to buy a Model 350 Lens Analyser for Bishop Auckland General Hospital's eye department.
Money from the same fund has been used to buy a portable pocket pachymeter machine for the eye department at Darlington Memorial Hospital.
Both pieces of equipment were formally presented to the hospitals by Hydro Polymers' site director Bill Wood.
Consultant eye surgeon Richard Stirling thanked the company for its support.
Mr Stirling said: "This is a real step forward for local glaucoma patients, because new technology like this would not otherwise have been available to patients in this area.
"Hydro Polymers' generosity will enable us to detect and surgically treat a whole new spectrum of corneal disorders."
