SECURITY and access control specialist Cam-Tec Systems has completed a move to new premises.

The firm, which has installed closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance systems for many of the North-East's blue-chip companies, has acquired an 11,500sq ft factory at Heighington Lane Business Park, Newton Aycliffe, County Durham.

The factory has been empty since the closure in February of Oshino Manufacturing UK, a Japanese-owned motor vehicle light bulb manufacturer.

Andrew Westgarth, managing director of Cam-Tec Systems, said the factory was a vast improvement on its previous home of six years - a 3,000sq ft unit at nearby Aycliffe Industrial Park.

He said: "The business has grown out of all proportion in the past 12 months and, while increasing the size of our headquarters four-fold might seem an enormous leap to some people, it is a good reflection of our confidence both in our customer base and the market conditions. We now have the room to pursue our plans for further expansion and diversification."

Cam-Tec Systems has a permanent staff of 30 - about a third of whom have joined in the past year due to an increasing workload.

Launched in 1992 by directors Mr Westgarth and Richard Hovington, it specialises in the design and installation of advanced CCTV surveillance, perimeter detection and access control systems across a wide range of industries.

Its customers include 3M, Balfour Beatty, BOC, British Energy, Hydro Polymers, BASF, Newcastle International Airport, Middlesbrough Council, Samsung Electronics, Siemens and Walkers Snackfoods.
