BOBBIES on bikes are patrolling public parks to clamp down on mobile phone thieves.
The crackdown has been launched in Middlesbrough at the beginning of the school holidays.
Cleveland Police hope the presence of officers on bikes will help prevent youngsters being targeted by mobile phone thieves.
It is part of Operation Gordian, which aims to increase patrols to reduce robbery, break-ins and car crime across Middlesbrough.
Highly visible patrols by uniformed police officers will be assisted by community support officers and council-employed community wardens.
Detective Superintendent Sue Cross said: "The intention is to impact on crimes of robbery, burglary and auto crime, mainly in the town centre and Linthorpe."
