Darlington manager Mick Tait was last night looking forward to a double striker boost after Danny Mellanby declared himself fit for the new season and trialist Glen Robson closed in on a permanent switch.
Mellanby is expected to return to action in a friendly at Dunston tonight after X-ray results showed no break on a rib injury picked up in the 1-1 draw at Durham.
And Tait believes there's a "good chance" striker Glen Robson will become his first signing of the summer.
The 25-year-old, who almost joined Quakers two years ago, has hit three goals in two outings on trial with the club and Tait has admitted a permanent deal for the former Blyth man could be in the offing.
"I've been very pleased with Glen," said Tait. "He's the sort of player we didn't have last season and there's a good chance we'll keep him.
"He's a box player who knows how to score goals as we've seen."
Robson will sit out tonight's clash at Federation Park, and Tait is hoping to look at two more trialists this evening. He will again run the rule over former Newcastle midfielder Carl Heiniger, who was part of the Team Bath side which reached the First Round of the FA Cup last season.
The Quakers boss will hand another start to former Leicester City goalkeeper Michael Price, who looks set to earn a short-term contract with the club.
The 20-year-old has played in all of Quakers' pre-season games in the absence of Andy Collett.
And while Collett is expected to be back in time for the beginning of the season, which kicks-off at Hull a week on Saturday, Price is could remain as back-up.
Tait, meanwhile, has poured cold water on reports that former Middlesbrough striker Alun Armstrong is training with the club.
Gateshead-born Armstrong is a free agent after being released by Ipswich at the end of the season. "People have been talking about Alun for the last couple of months but I've not even spoke to the lad," said Tait.
l Former Darlington goalkeeper Chris Porter has joined York City on a free transfer.
