A COMMUNITY support group has been given a cash boost.
The Kara project, based at South Bank, in Middlesbrough, is to receive £40,000 funding from the Greggs Trust, phased over three years.
The windfall will help Kara, which provides a range of family support services, with its running costs and it has already triggered funding from other bodies.
Kara recently moved to new premises. Ann McGrogan, project manager, said: "We can run courses now because we have our own training room. We have already run basic literacy and computer courses and have other ideas in the pipeline, including a cookery course for dads.
"Over the last year we have extended our work to include more fathers/male carers and capacity building courses."
Kara is holding a half-day family festival at St John's Church, on Redcar Road East, South Bank, on August 14, from 1pm to 4pm, which includes activities for children and families.
