A NORTH Yorkshire childminder has been named the best in the country at the finals of a national competition in London.
Jane Fisher, of Boroughbridge, was awarded the top prize at the Excellence in Child Care Awards by Minister for SureStart Baroness Cathy Ashton and received a cheque for £1,000.
She beat competition from more than 100 other people and said she will continue to expand her skills.
She is studying to become an accredited childminder on the first North Yorkshire scheme offering children, aged three and four, early education places.
North Yorkshire County Council education executive member, Chris Metcalfe, said: "This award reflects Jane's professionalism and commitment to delivering the highest quality childcare.
"I am delighted she has been recognised for her work and, of course, very proud she is one of our childminders.
"The award is a reflection of the high standard of childcare, especially childminding, on offer in North Yorkshire."
