A COUNCIL has approved a multi-million pound scheme to "radically improve" its services.
Sunderland City Council's cabinet voted for the first of several schemes in its four-year £35.72m Peoplefirst programme. The proposals include a network of centres offering round-the-clock access to council and other public services.
Peoplefirst aims to give residents more choice over how, where and when they access council and other public services. The council hopes to secure external cash for some schemes.
A spokeswoman said the programme would see major investment in "better services, new and improved facilities and staff training, and technology designed to improve the quality of life for everyone in the city.''
The first projects are likely to be a 24-hour customer contact centre due to open in January and self-service kiosks.
