TWO firms celebrated their 21st anniversaries by holding a Formula One day for motor racing fans, while raising cash for a children's hospice.
First Stop tyre dealer Town and Country Tyres, in Grangetown, put Jacques Villeneuve's BAR Honda test car on show for two days at the Asda store in South Bank, when both companies joined forces to celebrate their anniversaries.
Thousands of Formula One enthusiasts visited Villeneuve's test car, which has taken to the track in Melbourne, Interlagos, Sepang and Silverstone. People could also test their driving skills on a Formula One simulator, and have their picture taken with the car.
Phil Appleton, who owns Town and Country Tyres, said: "It went very well. It was very busy, and we attracted interest from at least 5,000 people."
The firm made £400 for Zoe's Place, in Normanby, and the money was collected from fares for rides on the simulator, and proceeds from photographs of fans with the car. Staff at Asda made £300 for the charity by selling burgers and running a tombola.
