THE Mayor of Ripon spoke out on behalf of protesting residents who have petitioned and written letters opposing a controversial plan to demolish 22 garages and replace them with seven homes.
Councillor David Parnaby was given special permission to address a meeting of the area planning committee of Harrogate Borough Council, and was also backed by a fellow Ripon city councillor Ken Hart.
Following a debate on the issue about land at Gallows Hill, Ripon, councillors unanimously agreed to defer the application for more information.
They called for a report on ground conditions in the area because of gypsum problems in parts of Ripon.
