THE 13th anniversary of a charity golf match proved lucky for one player, who sunk the competition's first ever hole-in-one.
Golfer Craig Donaldson achieved the rare feat at the WaterAid Pro-Am charity golf match, held recently at Castle Eden Golf Club, near Peterlee, County Durham.
The Cleveland Golf Club professional achieved the hole-in-one at the end of a 158-yard drive and it is the first time in the match's 13-year history that anyone has done so.
Gosforth professional Gary Donnison scored an albatross at the tenth hole, sinking his ball in two shots on the par five hole, and Stuart Ord, a golf professional from Crook Golf Club, nearly made a hole-in-one at the 17th hole, but the ball hit the pin and bounced out.
About 150 players from across the region took part in the game, raising nearly £9,000 for WaterAid. The charity raises money for drinking water, sanitation and hygiene projects in Africa and Asia and is Northumbrian Water's adopted charity.
