SURFING expert Alix Gladders has decided to work with a different kind of board.
The 20-year-old has become the first female joinery apprentice with Coast and Country Housing.
Ms Gladders, runner up in the Saltburn Ladies Open, is one of six joinery apprentices to be recruited by the company, which attracted 600 applications for six places on a three-year NVQ Level Three course in joinery.
She said: "Let us hope that I have set a precedent and more girls will follow me into the trade."
Coast and Country Housing is a not-for-profit housing organisation set up in July last year, following the transfer of homes from Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council.
