A JOINER has become the first - and probably the last - person to walk the length of Britain carrying a door.
Brian Walker made the 860-mile journey from Land's End to John O'Groats with the 40lb pine door strapped to his back.
His journey was inspired by his father, who once carried a door four miles home from a timber yard.
Mr Walker's efforts raised more than £5,000 for Cancer Relief Macmillan Nurses - and a place in the Guinness Book of Records.
The 30-year-old, of Heaton, Newcastle, said: "I remember when I was very young being very impressed by my father, Harry, carrying a door about four miles from the builder's yard to our house.
"I could have walked the length of the country easily, but it had already been done.
"So I came up with the idea of walking it and carrying a solid wood door all the way."
Mr Walker left Land's End on June 22 and, with backing from his wife, Nicki, maintained an average of 25 miles a day to complete the last 20-mile leg on Monday.
