WASTE not, want not - that's the philosophy of a group of Teesside workers.
And it has paid dividends for the Teesside Hospice in Middlesbrough.
Members of SembCorp Utilities high voltage maintenance team at Wilton have presented the hospice with nearly £800 raised from selling scrap pieces of cable.
High voltage distribution manager Ian Turford said: "The scrap cable comes from recent plant closures and any redevelopment, improvement and maintenance projects carried out to the electrical distribution infrastructure on the Wilton International site.
Assistant engineer Dave Wright came up with the idea of recovering the redundant cable and selling it to a local scrap merchant for its copper and aluminium content.''
Hospice general manager Maureen Thompson said: "We rely on this kind of help to raise enough money to enable us to continue with our services and we are very grateful to all the staff in the maintenance team.''
