A MAN was recovering in hospital last night after impaling his arm on a tree branch while trying to escape police.
Officers responding to reports of an assault on The Green, Richmond, North Yorkshire, at 10pm on Wednesday, came across the man, who is on curfew in relation to another matter and should have been at home.
He fled, and jumped 20ft from the bridge over the River Swale in an attempt to escape.
However, there was insufficient water to break his fall and he suffered facial injuries and a wound to his arm, after it was impaled on a tree.
He was treated at the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton.
