THEY say that some dogs are the double of their owners - and for pet lover Dave Harris putting the theory to the test proved a prizewinning move.
Judges in a pet lookalike contest spotted the resemblance between Mr Harris, from Frosterley, County Durham, and his four immaculately groomed Samoyed dogs, Toddy Bear, Pixie, Tuppence and Elfie.
They voted him Supreme Champion in the competition, organised during National Pet Week by supermarket company Morrisons and pet food makers Masterfoods.
A Morrisons spokesman said Mr Harris had been an obvious choice for the title of top dog, which carried a prize of a supply of dog food.
The spokesman said: "When we began judging, it soon became clear that Dave was going to emerge as the winner.
"In particular, Dave's well-groomed beard and his kindly smile seemed to reflect the stunning coats and endearing faces of his four brilliant white Samoyeds."
Mr Harris said: "Toddy Bear, Pixie, Tuppence and Elfie love to show off. Toddy was our first Samoyed and we fell for the breed because they are the most affectionate and loveable dogs we've ever had.
"They are extremely intelligent, as well as being good company. They do take some looking after and their coats require regular grooming to keep them in good condition - a bit like my beard really."
The breed originated in Siberia where they were used by the Samoyed people to herd reindeer. They have also been used on a number of polar expeditions.
