A VIEW of a thirteenth century church, taken by D&S Times' photographer Nigel Whitfield, has been reproduced in notelet and postcard form to help raise funds for repairs to the building.
St Andrew's at Winston was founded in 1254, with the tower and steeple added when the church was enlarged and restored in 1848.
Although basically sound, after 155 years there is work to be done, and with £7,000 needed to pay for it, members are always on the lookout for funding ideas.
With this in mind, and with the agreement of the D&S Times' editor, Malcolm Warne, Mr Whitfield's view of the church has been used on notelets and postcards, which are now on sale in packs of ten or loose.
They cost £5 for ten notelets and envelopes or £4 for ten postcards and are available from Vera Featherstone on 01325 730071. Single items can be purchased at the church or in person from Mrs Featherstone or church members.
As well as appealing for funds for repairs, members are also raising cash to pay for a weathervane in the shape of a golden cockerel to mark the church's 750th anniversary.
The cockerel is symbolic because in the ninth century it was decreed that a cockerel be set up on every church tower and steeple, as a reminder not to deny Christ, as St Peter did when the cockerel crowed
