A FAST FOOD restaurant chain has been given permission to open a second outlet in Darlington, but with revised opening times.
Council officers recommended approval of plans to build a KFC restaurant and drive-through at Darlington Retail Park, in Yarm Road, with opening times of 11am to 11pm and 11am to 10.30pm on Sundays.
But after hearing residents' fears about the possibility of anti-social behaviour after the rest of the park closed at 8pm, the planning committee decided to impose a closing time of 8pm Monday to Saturday and 5pm on Sundays.
Planning officer Adrian Miller also warned that the applicant, Yum Restaurants International, would probably appeal against the imposed restriction.
However, committee members voted by six votes to three in favour of Councillor Cyndi Hughes' motion to grant planning permission with the limited opening hours.
