A community has been awarded a National Lottery grant of £80,000.
Boosbeck, near Saltburn, east Cleveland, has received the grant from the Lottery's Community Fund. The money will be spent on refurbishing the community centre.
Kathleen Jackson, from the centre, said: "By getting the grant we will be able to make our community centre accessible to everyone in the village.
"Without it, the building would eventually have been closed, leaving us without a village hall."
The centre's committee consulted villagers to find out their needs. As a result, a range of educational, social and health improving activities will take place in the new centre, which will have facilities for the disabled.
Helen Attewell, regional development officer for the community fund, said: "We encourage local groups to get in touch with us before they submit an application to talk through the planning stages of a project.
"The village halls guidance is an excellent tool for groups to use in the early stages of preparing for a bid."
