Darlington Building Society NYSD Premier League Division One: Great Ayton leapfrogged Seaton Carew into second place when they won the match of the day by seven wickets.

Richie Clayton made a century but still ended on the losing side. His 107 included 15 fours and when Kevin Rowntree added 34, Seaton's 50 overs produced the useful total of 210-9. Great Ayton did not have a three-figure man but they did have Glen Mudd and David Grainge in top form. Mudd struck a six and eight fours making 54 while Grainge carried his bat for 84 with no fewer than 13 boundaries.

Wolviston still lead the table despite being held to a draw by fourth-top Billingham Synthonia who were in the ascendancy at stumps.

By then, they had reduced Wolviston to 111-7 in 50 overs mainly as a result of the efforts of Keith Martin whose tremendous 25-overs spell earned him five wickets for 57 runs.

In contrast, the runs flowed when the Synners made first use of the wicket. David Fairley led from the front striking two sixes and 11 boundaries out of 101 before the innings closed on 197 from the last ball of the 50 overs.

There was an exciting conclusion to the game between Marske and Normanby Hall when just three runs and one wicket separated the pair.

Replying to the Marske total of 181-7, the Hall were 178-9 which included 56 by Shoaib and 34 from Brian Leach. Robin Walker took 4-38 in 12 overs and Peter Briggs bowled unchanged for 25 overs in the Marske attack capturing four wickets for 78 runs.

It was the opening partnership between Andrew Batchelor (51) and Chris Gibbon (31) which laid the foundations for the Seasiders' total and for Normanby Hall, Shoaib sent down 16 overs taking 3-52.

James Riley, Ryan Murray and Steve Donlan combined in Guisborough's emphatic win against Barnard Castle. Riley recorded 15 boundaries in 107 and Murray had two sixes and 11 fours out of 94 as the scoreboard progressed to 260-3 before the declaration was made with an over remaining.

Although Barnard Castle never threatened to succeed, they almost claimed a draw and a late 38 from Cavanagh, batting at number nine, raised their hopes before the innings closed at 172 in the 50th over. Steve Donlan was Guisborough's matchwinner with the ball and in 24.5 overs, 11 of which were maidens, he claimed six wickets for 74 runs.

Darlington's batsmen were also in scoring mode at Feethams when they entertained Bedale. Runs were plentiful from the bats of Jamie Watson and Keith Barker who added 140 for the opening stand. Bedale's reply soon ended with only 94 runs on top as Rob Lawrence took 5-38 in 13 overs and young Dale Thomas claimed three wickets for just ten overs from the five overs he delivered.

Runs were also easy to come by for the Marton batsmen at Stokesley where Dean Kirby and John Leadbitter were involved in a huge stand for the third wicket. Leadbitter carried his bat for 130 hitting two sixes and 17 fours and Kirby was just six runs short of a century when he was dismissed after striking 12 boundaries.

The innings was cut short with 268 for three on the board. In reply, Stokesley laboured through 37.2 overs making only 113.
