Scarecrows greeted carnival crowds in a Teesdale town at the weekend.
Middleton-in-Teesdale had been the centre of a scarecrow trail for two weeks before its summer celebrations on Saturday, with Worzel Gummidges of every shape and size lying in shop windows and decorating farm gates and homes.
Carnival queen Alexandra Robinson's first duty was to start a fell race on Friday night. Danielle Nixon and Daniel Baines were her attendants.
Saturday's procession brought traffic to a standstill. The Ryhope Allstars jazz band were followed by elaborately decorated floats, fancy dress competitors and Crook Grenadiers.
At the school field there were rides, competitions, birds of prey demonstrations, drummers and a helicopter show.
A family disco was in the Workmen's Club on Saturday night, while a 10km road race and five-a-side football filled yesterday's programme.
Throughout the weekend, the Jubilee Study Group displayed its exhibition of photographs, maps, and records charting the history of Middleton-in-Teesdale's buildings.
The display is open today between 10am and 4pm.
