TWO students have been appointed chefs at a top restaurant after successfully completing work placements in the Channel Islands.
Louise Forster and Rachel Weighell, NVQ catering and hospitality students at Darlington College of Technology, will start work in August in the kitchens of the Bohemia restaurant in St Helier, Jersey.
The restaurant is run by Shaun Rankin, of Ferryhill. The sous chef is Adrian Goldbrough, a former Junior Chef of the Year. Both trained at Darlington College and have worked with celebrated chef Raymond Blanc.
"It was really hard work," said Louise, 18, from Newton Aycliffe. "And we soon learned not to answer back."
"But it was great experience," said Rachel, also 18, from Barton. "We got shouted at quite a lot. When he calls the order you are supposed to shout 'Oui chef', but we didn't shout it loud enough."
Head of hotel, catering and hospitality Peter Bell said: "We always try and include some form of work experience appropriate to the needs and ambitions of the students. When this leads to a full-time job we are absolutely delighted."
