safety zones could be created outside three York schools.
Proposals are being put forward to improve entrances to Burton Green, Tang Hall and Clifton Green primary schools.
The initiative includes "keep clear" markings, red road surfaces and a 20mph speed limit outside Tang Hall Primary School.
An order preventing cars stopping outside the gates during peak times is also being considered to make crossing the road safer.
The City of York Council's principal transport planning officer, Dan Johnson, said: "The authority's Transport Plan aims to reduce casualties, particularly among children. We are investing in safety zones to reduce the risks outside every primary school in the city."
Residents are being consulted. Any concerns will be considered by the council's planning and transport (east area) sub-committee on Thursday, September 11.
If the work is approved, it is anticipated it will begin in December
