YOUNG people who put their estate in the picture opened a week-long display of their work last night.
Artist and dramatist Jane Crawford joined children from Woodhouse Close, in Bishop Auckland, at the beginning of June, to produce a book of photographs and writings about their lives.
Later, visual artist Daniel Forth joined the project to make a video.
He also created craft and art pieces which make up the exhibition Postcards from Woodhouse, which is in the church hall from 10am to 4pm each day this week.
The Reverend Vince Fenton, of the estate's ecumenical church, has watched the project develop.
He said: "The booklet contains a small portion of the photographs taken by the young people as they strolled the streets of the estate.
"When developed, each chose their favourite and the creative writing began.
"Together, they give us a wonderful insight into their thoughts and feelings."
